BLUESPEC EXPANDS WORLDWIDE SALES CHANNELS

– Two EDA Industry Sales Veterans Join Executive Team to Lead Sales Efforts for Breakthrough EDA Toolset; Sales Representation Announced for Israel and Scandinavia –

Waltham, Mass. – October 20, 2004 – Bluespec Inc., developer of the industry’s first SystemVerilog-based high-level synthesis Electronic Design Automation (EDA) toolset, today announced the expansion of sales channels in the North American, European and Asian EDA markets. To lead the sales efforts, Bluespec has appointed Craig Robbins to vice president of sales for North America and Asia/Pacific (APAC), and Maria Adolf to vice president for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India (EMEA). Additionally, Bluespec announced sales representation in Israel and Scandinavia by TBS Technologies and MindCrea Limited, respectively. This sales channel expansion comes on the heels of Bluespec’s general availability in June 2004 of its extremely innovative EDA toolset for ASIC and FPGA designers that automatically synthesizes RTL implementations from high-level design descriptions.

“We have seen tremendous interest in our high-level synthesis approach by early adopters who are serious about reducing the time and cost of developing today’s highly complex chip designs, “ said Shiv Tasker, Bluespec’s CEO. “Both Craig and Maria have the expertise and credibility that will allow them to develop the partnerships required with leading edge customers for mutual success.”

Craig Robbins was previously vice president of sales for Hier Design, a developer of next generation hierarchical floorplanning and analysis software for FPGA design that was recently acquired by Xilinx. Prior to Hier, Craig was vice president of customer driven research and development (R&D) at Cadence Design Systems, Inc. He joined Cadence through its acquisition of Silicon Perspective, where he served as Eastern Area sales director and vice president of sales. Previously, he was Averant’s Eastern Region sales director. Additionally, Craig was vice president of sales at Nevo Technologies and ATG Technology. Earlier in his career, he held executive sales management positions at Gateway Design Automation and Redwood Design Automation, both acquired by Cadence. Craig has a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of California, Berkeley.

“I see the same dramatic productivity improvements with Bluespec as I did with Verilog HDL when I joined Gateway Design Automation in 1986. Bluespec has made tremendous strides in the past year, and I am excited to be part of its future growth,” said Craig.

Maria Adolf joins Bluespec from Monterey Design Systems, Inc., an EDA software company where she was vice president of European operations, responsible for the company’s entire organization throughout the region. Prior to Monterey, Maria was European Sales Director for Viewlogic until it was purchased by Synopsys, where she was then named the Consulting Sales Director for Northern Europe. Previous to Viewlogic, Maria held various positions at Cadence, including Account Manager and Sales Director, while also serving as European Director of Marketing & Sales Operations. Maria received a Business Administration degree from the University of Munich.

“In the face of continuous offshoring and outsourcing, the European design community is ready to move up the value chain using the Bluespec based high-level synthesis capability,” said Maria. “I think with Bluespec we can make a difference to the entire European design community.”

About Bluespec
Bluespec Inc. manufactures an industry standards-based Electronic Design Automation (EDA) toolset that significantly raises the level of abstraction for hardware design while retaining the ability to automatically synthesize high quality RTL, without compromising speed, power or area. The toolset allows ASIC and FPGA designers to significantly reduce design time, bugs and re-spins that contribute to product delays and escalating costs.
