BLUESPEC
LANDS EDA INDUSTRY VETERAN AS VP ENGINEERING
--
Former R&D Director at Cadence Design Systems,
Sathyam Pattanam, Joins Bluespec Team To Oversee
Development of Breakthrough EDA Toolset -
Waltham
, Mass. , January 26, 2004 – Bluespec
Inc., an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) company,
today announced the appointment of Sathyam Pattanam
to the position of vice president of engineering,
responsible for leading Bluespec’s engineering
organization.
Pattanam
joins Bluespec from Cadence Design Systems, the
largest supplier of electronic design technologies,
after serving thirteen years in various roles,
most recently as R&D Group Director. This
hire continues to strengthen Bluespec’s
management team as it prepares to introduce the
industry’s first SystemVerilog-based EDA
toolset for ASIC and FPGA designers that automatically
synthesizes RTL implementations from high-level
design descriptions.
“Sathyam
Pattanam brings demonstrated leadership, strong
technical expertise, and a proven ability to deliver
high-quality, complex EDA software products,”
said Shiv Tasker, Bluespec’s CEO. “Attracting
an executive of Sathyam’s caliber says a
great deal about Bluespec’s opportunity
and momentum. His verification background will
help round out our product offering into a full
hardware development environment at the design
assertion level.”
While
R&D director at Cadence, Pattanam managed
the Logic Verification Group where he supervised
a large team of engineers located in both the
United States and India. Pattanam oversaw the
development of Cadence’s market leading
Incisive™ verification platform, which consists
of logic simulators and advanced verification
tools for electronics IC and systems design.
Prior
to Incisive, Pattanam managed the engineering
efforts of Cadence’s NC-Verilog, NC-VHDL,
and NCSim digital logic simulators.
Before
joining Cadence in 1990, Pattanam worked at AT&T
Bell Laboratories from 1985 to 1990. During this
period Pattanam developed several state-of-the-art
IC layout extraction, verification, and compaction
tools that are in use even today.
“Bluespec
is on the verge of a very exciting development
in the EDA tools industry,” said Pattanam.
“By attacking the escalating verification
problem at the root of the design cycle, rather
than merely enhancing simulation and verification
solutions, Bluespec has a huge potential to positively
impact the silicon design process. I am thrilled
to be a part of the continued development and
launch of this groundbreaking product.”
Pattanam
received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from
Rutgers University and a B. Tech in Electrical
Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology
in Madras, India.
About
Bluespec
Bluespec Inc. manufactures an industry standards-based
Electronic Design Automation (EDA) toolset that
significantly raises the level of abstraction
for hardware design while retaining the ability
to automatically synthesize high quality RTL,
without compromising speed, power or area. The
toolset allows ASIC and FPGA designers to significantly
reduce design time, bugs and re-spins that contribute
to product delays and escalating costs. More information
